New energy industry
Hohhot has great advantages for developing new energy industry, with abundant silicon ore, water, wind and land resources that are suitable for photovoltaic and wind power. In addition, it has large deserts near the main power grids, which are excellent for power plants. Hohhot also has a more stable supply of electricity and relatively low costs compared with China's 27 provincial capitals, giving it an advantage in developing raw materials such as polycrystalline silicon. It produces 1,000 tons of monocrystalline silicon and 1,500 tons of polysilicon a year. And, when its Inner Mongolia Sunnergy Co and Shenzhou Silicon Industry Co projects go into production, it will be able to produce 1,000 tons of monocrystalline silicon rods, 800-1,000MW of silicon wafers and ingots, and 28,500 tons of polysilicon. Its wind farms backed by the Huaneng Hohhot Wind Power Co and China Guodian Corp are also taking advantage of those wind resources and wind power equipment manufacturing and have begun generating power, helping develop new energy.
