The first Inner Mongolia International Horse Culture Expo is scheduled to run in Inner Mongolia autonomous region from Aug 18 to 28 next year, according to a press conference held in Beijing Nov 2.
The expo will be mainly held in Hohhot and Xiliinhot.
Horses play an important role in the region's traditional nomadic culture. It is said that a herdsman in Inner Mongolia without a horse is like a bird without wings.
Themed on “stories between human beings and horses”, the expo aims to promote the development of the Mongolian horse industry and develop into a widely recognized event across the world over the next three to five years.
Wang Jiping, vice-mayor of Hohhot, said at the conference that the city is well placed to host the event as it has a strong foundation in developing horse-related industries.
Inner Mongolia has established a massive and integrated industrial chain in horse-related industries.
According to Wang, there will be four more horse racing venues of world standard in Inner Mongolia by 2020, making the region a preferred place for holding equestrian events.
He also expressed his hopes that the expo will showcase to the world the regional horse culture and customs of ethnic Mongolian groups.
The gathering will include opening and closing ceremonies, horse-related forums, equestrian festivals, cultural performances and film screenings.
Solicitation activities will also be held during the expo to attract global artists to show horse-themed artworks.
The conference also revealed the expo's logo and the seal marks for cultural reform and development in Inner Mongolia.
